A New Mequon Home has a Modern Farmhouse Look Blended with an Asian Feel
By Guy Fiorita
Before construction ever began, the owners of a new home in Mequon made two things very clear. The style should be modern farmhouse, and they wanted it to incorporate some of their favorite furnishings. Achieving that look started with the design of the exterior. “We broke the house up into several distinct parts so it looks like a true farmhouse, which normally have additions built over time to help the home adapt to changing needs and lifestyles. We then modernized it by adding clean lines and simple geometric shapes,” says Todd A. Rabidoux, director of architecture at Lakeside Development Company.
Summer homes are retreats: passive promoters of lounging, sunbathing, and crime-novel perusing. This newly rebuilt summer home on Pine Lake nearly fits that bill. With a nod to the past, this picturesque home is filled with many wood features, but now they’re structurally sound—and a touch more distinctive.
Rising to the Challenge
A simple wrought-iron motif that graces the courtyard gate at the home of Cathie Madden and Jeff Yabuki is much more than an architectural afterthought. The floral motif, repeated numerous times throughout the home, is a signal that this house is about more than square footage, walls and forms.
Designing Your Dwelling For Your Dog
When we shopped around for our first home, there were a few “musts” that my husband and I individually required before we signed on the dotted line. Fast forward a couple years, and we heard the pitter-patter of not two but four legs flying across the kitchen floor. A warm, adorable and very messy puppy was now the master of our domain.
